Theater aan het Vrijthof in Maastricht (Netherlands) presents a joint exhibition by Sylvie Macias Diaz and Jacqueline Machado de Souza.

Jacqueline Machado de Souza examines processed material from everyday life (footage, archival materials, recordings of no preconceived events). Thereby it transforms into miniature observations in which the layers and pluralistic meaning of reality comes to light. The displayed videos show a method or product to produce a better relationship with yourself or the world: a perfume to improve the image of self, a panacea to be healthy again. Or, to paraphrase a statement from the discourse of Pixels of Paradise: ‘All art is a matter of believing.’

Sylvie Macias Diaz about her work shown: ‘I love to reveal and denounce what our consumer society proposes us as being the societal stereotypes, conformity and domestic happiness. I defuse and watch in a cynical way what is hiding the mechanisms of the social order which works as an immense symbolic machine tending to ratify the male domination on which it is based. To believe in the image is at first to believe in the fiction made by the world. Believe is fading as a real subject in favor of the image of the other. Therefore, the picture built a huge lie that our need for history revealed. We also have the desire to fantasize invented truth of all parts for the sake of the cause. There are the deceivers and the deceived.’
