OMG*

In the beautiful setting of the Chapelle St–Roch, dating from the sixteenth century and located in the heart of the picturesque Pierreuse neighbourhood, MADmusée presents an exhibition built around the photographic accounts of outsider artist environments built through the sheer force of conviction and commitment of an individual.

Parisian Jean-Michel CHESNE’s collection of postcards is composed of testimonies to an unusual form of tourism that focuses on places that demonstrate exceptional creative fervor. Driven by faith and mysticism, men and women have built buildings, environments and sculptures in different countries and regions. It is more than art: these creations are above all profoundly human. Each postcard shows these individual initiatives, supported by the illumination of places of worship, contemplation or curiosity, all recognized as being worthy of interest and visited by believers and the curious.

Swiss photographer Mario DEL CURTO travels the world to photograph outsider artists in their working environment or homes. He meets them through his camera lens, and his rich collection of images reveals the urgency of creation within these extraordinary artists. He has also photographed many outsider environments. For this exhibition, the MADmusée has selected a set of pictures of outsider environments and of artists for whom creation is the result of an epiphany, an unshakable spiritual will.
